In 2019 the museum was approached by artist Susanna Webster who had a brilliant idea. She wanted to use everyday technology, that we are all now very familiar with, to let people digitally ‘visit’ the museum.
We were very lucky to get ‘Bright Sparks’ funding through Cornwall Museums Partnership and FEAST supported by Arts Council England. During this pilot project we worked with two local Care Homes to test the idea and see what worked. This involved lending the Care Home a tablet and Susanna’s skills. Each week a different area of the museum was selected and explored. The entire project was a total delight and made a significant difference to the residents sparking memories and discussions.
Since the museum has closed, in response to COVID-19, we have continued with these digital dial-ins when doing our weekly building checks. It is a joy to welcome the Care Home residents who are even more isolated due to the current crisis. More than anything it is heartwarming to hear laughter and conversations still echoing through the museum.
Thanks to funding from The Space we have documented ‘Wish You Were Here’ in this film.
