Over the last few years we have worked with made on a number of projects working with a wide range of people of all ages.
Kara Hellys 2025 – Workshops with Schools
With information supplied by volunteers and staff at the museum made are delivering six exciting, interactive workshops to local schools during June 2025 . Students will be participating in Cornish traditional and contemporary music, dance, drama and the Cornish language learning about historical characters from the town and their stories enhancing the Key Stage 2 Local History Curriculum helping the museum to celebrate Speak Cornish Week.
Allantide at the Museum 2024
Every year at the museum we celebrate Allantide or Hallantide which marks the end of autumn and the beginning of winter. This Cornish celebration happened around the apple and orchard harvests in October and then coincided with the Christian liturgical commemoration of ‘All Hallows Eve’ which more recently became ‘Hallowe’en’
On Saturday 2 November 2024 Kara Hellys Gwariers, a group of professional and community performing artists supported by made, based in Helston, performed as part of our celebrations. They brought Cornish music, dance and words to the museum performing a blend of traditional and newly created pieces of music, songs, dances and words to a delighted audience.
Kara Hellys Promenade Performances 2023
Funded by ACE this project brought to life some of the lesser known stories held within the museum collection ad archive. Supported by research carried out by volunteers at the museum made worked with a team of professional theatre makers to create a promenade performance during May 2023. Prior to the performance a series of workshops were held for families during the Easter holidays at the museum and a Melting Pot series of sessions were held with the made team and other local artists at the museum.
Loan Boxes and Memory Cafes
Over the last few years we have supported the work made have been delivering to Memory Cafe’s across Cornwall by lending our loan boxes free of charge . The boxes have helped to bring to life sessions with a wide range of topics such as holidays, school days, and home life in the 50’s and 60’s. This is an ongoing relationship and we look forward to supporting future Memory Café sessions.
