Flare Arts D/deaf Curating

Flare Arts is a a Deaf-led CIC, supporting D/deaf and Hard of Hearing creatives in the UK.

The Museum of Cornish Life will be mentoring the team at Flare Arts develop adaptive curatorial skills in an integrated and inclusive way. Using dialogue and skills exchange based on a long-standing relationship between Flare Arts co-founder and Craft Director Omeima Mudawi-Rowlings MBE, and Dr. Tehmina Goskar, Research Curator, the partnership will develop new ways of integrating curatorial and artistic practices whether emerging from D/deaf led, hard of hearing or or hearing practices.

Flare Arts was set up in 2023 to support sustainable cultural change by upskilling D/deaf creatives in the arts with professional and creative development workshops, exhibiting opportunities, sector-specific D/deaf awareness training, and mentoring to help challenge barriers. Flare Arts approaches this with our unique structure, lived experience, and professional expertise.

We will be providing curatorial mentoring support and training throughout in the early stages of the organisation’s development.

The other organisations working with Flare Arts are: Cockpit, Outside In and the Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft.

Flare Arts’s development is supported by Arts Council England through the National Lottery.
