Stories were gathered in the Helston and Lizard area and museum volunteers audio transcribed recordings and researched supporting images. This projects legacy is to capture local Cornish voices and memories.
We are delighted to share three stories inspired by objects in the museum collection:
Cornish Life Stories: Helston Railway (2 mins 40 secs). A railway staff, part of the signalling system, reveals the story of the Helston branchline and Chris Heaps’ personal connection.
Cornish Life Stories: The Porthallow Banner (2 mins 40 secs). An old, faded, delicate banner tells the story of tea treats and chapels in the St. Keverne parish on the Lizard Peninsula.
Cornish Life Stories: Gabbroic Pottery (3mins 30 secs). Animation mixed with documentary explores the ancient history of Gabbroic rock and pottery, found on the Eastern side of the Lizard peninsula, retold by archaeologist Dr. Imogen Woods.
