
Join our team as a Customer Service Apprentice
Working with a small staff team (Director, Community Engagement Curator and Collections Curator) and a large team of over sixty volunteers you will carry out a broad range of roles with a focus on customer service. On a day-to-day basis you will be managed by the Director.
The focus of the role will be customer services through welcoming visitors, helping with exhibitions/events and making sure the museum is presentable. The role will provide you with work-based training opportunities to develop your knowledge and experience of customer service in a museum. This apprenticeship is funded by Arts Council England through mc7 (a consortium of museums made up of Bodmin Keep, Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery, Falmouth Art Gallery, Museum of Cornish Life, Penlee House, PK Porthcurno, and Wheal Martyn.
Salary: £12.21 per hour
Hours: 30 hours (including 1 Saturday a month)
Contract: tbc (1 September 2025 – 1 December 2026)
Daily duties will involve:
- Welcoming visitors
- Working with volunteers on the reception to welcome visitors
- Taking sales in the museum shop and keeping the displays clean
- Helping with visitor enquiries in person, online and on the phone
- Photocopying and printing for members of the public
- Collecting visitor surveys
- Opening and closing the museum including putting out and taking down signs, pop-up café, etc.
2. Helping with exhibitions and events
- Setting up and tidying up after events
- Assisting with exhibitions and events
- Distributing posters to advertise exhibitions and events
3. Making the museum presentable
- Keeping the tourist information leaflet point tidy
- General cleaning including toilets, pop-up cafe and touch points in the galleries
- Weeding the outdoor space
4. Attending Training
- Completing apprentice study tasks through the training provider Cornwall Marine Network
- Undertaking a first aid course
- Attending a range of on-the-job museum related training
