Holiday Volunteering

In July we were delighted to welcome Kusi Colonna-Preti as she volunteered two weeks of her time to the museum. Kusi works at the Archaeological Service in Barcelona for the City Council. Here she undertakes preventive and remedial conservation of finds recovered from archaeological projects in Barcelona municipality, mainly
ceramics, mosaic, stone and organic material.

Kusi approached us to volunteer her time as she was keen to come to Cornwall to research her family history (she discovered a relative from Cornwall was a mariner who made trips to Peru) and to improve her spoken English. In exchange the museum benefitted from Kusi’s conservation skills. Over the two week she helped us develop our skills and confidence in looking after items in the collection. She also helped us identify objects that need specialist conservation so we are now going to fundraise to make this happen, starting with the 17th century glass window.

We need all sorts of help so if you are on holiday and fancy helping us we are always interested (contact us on info@museumofcornishlife.co.uk. Help we need:

  • Welcoming visitors on the front desk
  • Cleaning the museum
  • Weeding
  • A skill you might bring

So come and holiday volunteer with us!
